# AI summarizer: get the short version

Blurwrite's summarizer gives you the short version of an article, report or paragraph. Paste your text, choose a format and length, and turn a long read into a focused overview for your notes, next draft or meeting.

## How it works

Start with the passage you want to understand. An article, a report section and a single paragraph each call for a slightly different way of preparing the text.

1. **Paste the article text**
Copy the article's main text into the text box. Leave out navigation menus, related stories and subscription notices so your input focuses on the article itself. Keep its introduction and conclusion when they explain the argument you want to understand.
2. **Choose a complete report section**
For a report, paste the section that answers your question, along with its heading and any explanation needed to understand it. Keep a finding with its supporting context rather than cutting the passage halfway through a point.
3. **Focus a paragraph summary**
Paste the whole paragraph, including its opening claim and final qualification. This works well for a dense explanation or a draft that feels crowded. Decide whether you need its central idea or a fuller account of the supporting reasons.
4. **Set the format and select Summarize**
Pick a shape, then use Length to choose how much detail you want. Select Summarize to create the result. Read it alongside the passage with your purpose in mind: revision notes need different detail from a quick briefing.

## Questions

### Is there a free AI summarizer?

Yes, Blurwrite offers free summarizer use with no card needed. Free use includes one run a day on the first 250 words. If you paste more, a note shows how much was summarized and what was left out. Start with the passage most relevant to your question so the input covers a complete idea.

### What is the best way to summarize an article?

The best approach is to summarize the article's main text with a clear reading goal. Remove page navigation and unrelated material, keep the context around its central argument, and decide what you need from the result. For research, retain the source reference beside your notes so you can return to the evidence behind each point.

### Can AI summarize a PDF?

Yes. Select Upload file and choose the PDF, up to 2 MB; its text goes into the box, and you summarize it as usual. A scanned PDF that holds only images of pages has no text to read, so use a version with selectable text. Before you run it, check that the text reads in the correct order, and remove repeated page headers, especially when the document uses columns or places captions between paragraphs.

### How long should a summary be?

A summary should be long enough to explain the main point and the context your reader needs. A quick reading note can focus on the conclusion, while a briefing may also need reasons and qualifications. Choose the level of detail according to the task, then remove anything that adds length without helping the reader understand.

### Does an AI summary change the meaning?

An AI summary aims to preserve the main meaning while reducing detail. Key sentences returns the source's own sentences in their original order, which helps you follow the argument back through the source, and Paragraph and Bullet points are written to keep every figure, name and unit exactly and to add nothing that is not in the text. Read the result alongside the passage when conditions, exceptions or technical terms matter. Treat it as a summary rather than a quotation, and use the source for exact wording.

### What is the difference between summarizing and paraphrasing?

Summarizing reduces a passage to its main points, while paraphrasing expresses its content in different wording. Choose a summary when you need an overview or compact notes. Choose a paraphrase when the passage's detail belongs in your draft but its wording needs to change. Keep the original source reference when using either in academic work.
